January, 2009: Happy New Year!

A new year begins! What does this mean?

To some people it means, just another year. To others, it means a fresh start. Some like to think about the past year and then decide what changes they'd like to make in the new year. Many people like to make new year's resolutions---goals they'd like to meet in the new year. However, not very many people are successful in sticking to their new year's resolutions.

Why do you think some people are able to keep their resolutions and others are not? Is there something different about these people? Do some people have certain qualities that help them keep their resolutions that other people don't have? What are these qualities? Maybe it has nothing to do with the people. Maybe it has everything to do with the resolutions they make. Are some types of resolutions easier to keep than others? What makes some easier than others?

Is it a good idea to make new year's resolutions? Why or why not? What do you think?

Discuss the questions above with your family members, then post your thoughts about resolutions in the comment section. By the way, did you make any new year's resolutions for 2009?

Hello! Happy New Year!

In 2009, my resolution is to read as many comics as I can find in the library. I like comics because they are so funny and make me chuckle. Comics is a good pastime. I like Calvin and Hobbes, Naruto, Garfield, and Simpsons.

I like the idea of making resolutions for a new year because that gives you a goal to work on. It's like a quest to pursue. Make sure you don't set an unachievable goal (e.g. I want to be the king). If the goal is too hard to achieve, you will end up in failure and get disappointed.

Some resolutions can be easier to keep than others. If someone resolves to go for more walks, I think that is an easy resolution because you can just put some time aside for it. Trying to be nicer would be a harder resolution because being mean can be a habit and habits are hard to break.

My resolution is to be nicer to my dog. I know it's hard, but I still want to do it.

My new years resolution is to spend more time with my dog, like taking him for longer walks or hikes and washing him and playing with him.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I usually do not make New Year's resolutions as a rule because I think if you only try and change tings in your life once a year, then you neglect yourself the rest of the year.
I bet if you ask someone in November if they have kept up with their New Year's resolution, most people would have even forgotten what it was.
I am always trying to have more fun and to be nicer to my brother.

I'm one of those people who tend to ignore new year's and new year's resolutions, mostly because my family and i don't really celebrate new years.

I don't make resolutions, but i do challenge myself every day. I usually meet those challenges.

Some people have more things going on which makes it harder to complete resolutions. Some resolutions are easier to complete than others. Making resolutions are good because it forces you to make an effort and to find the time to do, at least for a little while!
