It's Friday the thirteenth. For most people, it's just another day. However, there are others that feel when Friday falls on the 13th day of a month, it is best to be on guard, because it may be a day for bad luck. This is called a 'superstition'- an idea or belief that has no basis in fact.
There are many, many superstitions that have been passed on through the years from one generation to the next. Have you heard of these:
* a rabbit's foot brings good luck
* at the end of a rainbow is a pot of gold
* if you blow out all your birthday cake candles in one breath, your wish will be granted
Think of a superstition that you have heard, and post it in the comment section.

We Chinese people don't wash our hair on the New Year Day because we believe that washing our hair on the New Year Day will bring bad luck for 10 consecutive years. (That is just superstition. I don't believe this but Mom won't let me wash my hair on New Year Day anyways)
We don't do any dusting or vaccuming on New Year Day because we believe that our luck and fortune will be swept away together with the dust and garbage. (I don't believe such thing but it is a "good" thing for me because I don't have to help out doing the dusting.)

These things will bring bad luck: Walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella indoors, or letting a black cat walk in your path.
It is also bad luck to spill salt but if throw a few grains over your right shoulder, you'll be okay.
It is good luck to find a penny on the street!

When a person sneezes you should say "bless you" so that the devil will not come and take the person away.
I don't believe in bad luck, but i do believe in good progress... that is to say, whatever comes my way, i try to make the best of it.
I look at the world more like a scientist and don't believe in superstition.
