Yes! It is January, 2010. We are all a year older and, hopefully, a year wiser. Although it is winter, the days are slowly getting longer and the sun, when we see it, actually feels warm at times. To bring in the new year, many communities hold a 'polar bear swim' on New Year's Day no matter how cold it is. In fact, Vancouver holds a 'polar bear swim' and has held this event since 1920.
Have you ever participated in a 'polar bear swim'? If so, tell us a little bit about your experience. If not, why do you think others participate in the 'polar bear swim'? Is it for health reasons? Is it for good luck? What do you think? Would you ever even consider doing this? Tell why or why not.

I would never do this because I hate cold weather. I do not know why anyone would do it.

I haven't participated in any polar bear swim before because it's too cold to swim in the winter - I might catch a cold. I think people choose to participate in polar bear swim because they think it's a fun tradition.

No I have never done a 'polar bear swim'. I think people participate in the 'polar bear swim' to clean themselves for a new year. I would never consider doing this because the water is too cold.
At the hot spring in Taiwan they have both cold and hot pools. Some people say to go in a hot pool then in a cold pool is good for your health. I would like to try the "Polar Bear Swim" someday.
I don't really want to do a polar bear swim because it is cold and I like warm water. I think people do it to celebrate polar bears and because it is something gfun to do on the first day of the year,
